Tamie Johnson / Jeff Lamb / Karen Wilson The tax rate for 2009 has been set by The Mayfield City Council. The tax rate will be 30 cents per $100 of assessed value. The rate this year is down from last year (30.8 cents), however your assessment may have increased (due to city properties being reassessed) therefore you may not see a change in your tax bill. The school tax rate will remain the same for the upcoming year, 68.3 cents per $100. Please remember that if you are 65 years of age or receiving disability benefits you may qualify for a homestead exemption. This will reduce your assessment by $33,700.00. If you have a question concerning this issue please contact the PVA office at 270.247.3301 or simply take your drivers license or proof of disability to Mr. Carr's office in the Graves County courthouse. A Reminder about your 2009 Property Taxes With tax time approaching, the City Clerk's office would like to refresh your memory concerning your 2009 property taxes. Taxes are due December 31, 2009, and payments made after that time will be subject to a 10% penalty. The City Clerk's office will close at 4:30 pm on that date and WILL NOT be open late this year for tax payments. If you sold your home during 2009 and received a tax bill, please forward that bill to the new owners. And, if you purchased a home in 2009 and did not receive a tax bill, you should contact the previous owners or the City Clerk's office. The City Clerk's office has honored all requests for mortgage escrows. If you receive a bill and you have an escrow account, please forward the bill to your mortgage company. Unpaid tax bills as of April 1, 2010, are subject to being purchased by a lien-holding company after May 1, 2010.
