The Mayfield Fire
Department and Mayfield-Graves County Emergency Medical Services
consists of 39 full time members with 2
code enforcement
officers and one administrative assistant. The Mayfield Fire
Department operates the city fire department and the city/county
ambulance service. There are 39 certified Emergency Medical
Technicians (EMTs) and 17 Paramedics. Members of the fire
department receive an initial 400 hours of training, with 100
hours yearly in-service, thereafter. The EMTs obtain an additional
24 hours every two years of continuing education. These hours keep
firefighters and EMTs updated in all aspects of firefighting and
medical training. All members
receive training in hazardous materials, response, first responder
training, infectious diseases, ropes, ladders, fire streams, pump
operations, personal protective equipment, and vehicle
extrication, just to name a few. Some members are trained in
special areas, such as arson investigation. There
are 5 members of the department who are certified Kentucky fire
training instructors, 2 members who are certified American Red
Cross first aid and CPR instructors, and 2 American Heart CPR
instructors. In July, 1998, the
Mayfield Fire Department acquired two IRIS cameras. These cameras
are used to detect fire hot spots and any extreme heat source. The
IRIS cameras are very beneficial tools that aid the fire
department's efforts to save lives and property. |
