Board of Zoning Adjustments

The Board of Zoning Adjustments (BZA) is a five member citizen board which helps the city review applications for conditional uses, dimensional variances and also helps to interpret the zoning ordinance.  These members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.  If you would like to discuss an issue that needs consideration by the BZA, please call Jimmy Bostic or Brad Rodgers at 247-1981.  Their email addresses are jbostic@cityofmayfield.org & brodgers@cityofmayfield.org.

Before granting any variance, the BZA must find that the approval of the application will not adversely affect the public health, safety or welfare, will not alter the essential character of the general vicinity, will not cause a hazard or nuisance to the public, and will not allow an unreasonable circumvention of the of the requirements of the zoning regulations.

The BZA hears conditional use requests which may allow the proper integration into the community of uses which are specifically named in the zoning regulations which may be suitable only in specific locations in the zone only if certain conditions are met.
