call 911 in any emergency situation. where the communications unit

location of the incident. Without this
information, the Communication Center personnel will not be able to locate
and provide you with a copy of the report quickly.
Q. What information should I
exchange with the other driver if I am in an accident?
A. Kentucky State Statute requires you to give your name, address,
and Vehicle Identification Number at the scene of an accident. It
is also a good idea to write down a description of the other
driver's vehicle (year, color, model, license plate, etc.), as
well as exchanging your insurance information and possibly a phone
number.
Q. If I'm getting harassing phone
calls, what should I do?

calls by calling 1-888-966-6222, and having a call trace put on
your phone line. Information from this trace can be used as
evidence of harassment at a later date.
Q. Can I phone-in an accident
report?
A. No. All accident
reports must be reported in person. You must either make the
report with the officer that responds to the scene, or on minor
accidents on a parking lot you will need to fill out a individual
accident report.
Q. If an incident occurred in
another city, can I still report it in the City of Mayfield?
A. No. Any
report you make regarding an incident, must be made in the city in
which the incident occurred.
Q. Where can I get an restraining
order...or an order of protection?
A. You can file
for an order of protection against the person who is abusing you
at the Graves County Courthouse in Mayfield.
Q. Where do I report an animal bite?
A. If the animal
bite occurred in Mayfield, Kentucky then you should call the Animal
Shelter at 270-251-0130 to report the bite and for an animal control
officer to
respond
if needed. If someone is seriously injured by an animal, then you
need to call 911.
Q. If I report a car stolen from
Mayfield, and then recover it myself...who do I report that to?
A. You must
contact the Mayfield Police Department at (270-247-1621) or the
detective that is handling your case.
Q. How can I get a Police Ride
Along?
A. The Mayfield Police Department has a ride-along
program to which it is very simple to apply. Simply go to the
Police Department and sign a waiver. You will be checked, and if
you are approved (you must be 18, and not have a criminal record
or warrants), you will be informed of a scheduled time and day
for you to ride-along. Your ride-along will consist of actually
riding in a working police car with a patrol officer. You see the
officer working during his shift...answering calls, stopping cars,
and everything else that makes up a typical tour-of-duty. Riding
along with an officer can be an eye-opening experience.
